The most essential step in understanding your beauty is to know and select your colors. I’ve never realized that knowing your color type(s) not only affects your clothes and makeup, but also your overall complexion and style. Creating a personalized color palette will help weed out all those colors that just aren’t right for you.
Before I start discussing what colors will work for you there is one important thing to note about these “trending” color palettes often provided by the internet or fun little quizzes. While most of the colors on a palette are right for you, I’ve notice some are greatly affected by the changes in fashion. In the 80’s we had popping vivid colors and in the later 2000’s we had pastels and puffy colors.

Not that these colors are bad or ugly, but you can see how they are “trending” colors which provide fun and flare for only a few years until the next color trend comes along. If you want to keep your style and makeup palette lasting for the next ten years, I advise to stay away from these colors or incorporate a softer version that will remain classic.
When creating your color palette I want you to cross out any colors you don’t like or would never use right away. This is your unique palette. Shaping it to fit your personality is the key to making a strong guide when you go shopping and make decisions. You can add or take away as many colors as you like, just keep in mind about the basic rules of the seasons when deciding what colors to choose. If ever in doubt, hold the color up to your face, take a look closely and far away in the mirror with natural lighting, and ask yourself if it’s “you”. I’m not even going to tell you what colors to avoid, because that color just might work for your special skin.
In the following articles, I will cover each color palette in detail so you can create the new you with ease. The season categories are Spring, Summer, Fall/Autumn, and Winter. Even if you already know what season(s) you are, let’s go ahead and update that knowledge anyways. You might even discover a new color to add to your palette! Once the seasons have been chosen I will dive into the subcategories of Warm/Cool, Soft/Bright, Light/Deep to further shape your unique palette.
