Summer Season Palette
Welcome to the Summer season of our color analysis! Discovering what season(s) fits you best is the first step to creating and understanding the new beautiful you. If you’ve taken the “3 Step Quiz” in the previous blog, double check by reading below to see if your beauty fits into this category and to better understand your season. You may have more than one season palette so be sure to check out the others too! It’s nice to toggle between two season palettes for variation.
When you look at the Summer palette think of the colors from nature. The calming glow of the setting sun, the sway of golden grass, or the tropical setting of an offshore island. All palettes are inspired by the colors of nature. Now let’s see if you’re a Summer palette. If you’re similar to the examples below you’re a match!
Eye Color: Do your eyes have these certain colors? Look into a mirror outside in the natural light to be certain. Light grey blue or green, grey blue, grayish brown or hazel, clear blue or green, aqua, steel grey, deep brown black, or pure black.
Hair color: Does your hair have undertones of light cool tones containing ash, grey, or blue? Think back to what your hair color was as a child this will help! These colors can be either light, medium, or dark shades. Hair color can be white, fair brown, ash blonde, ash brown, mousy brown, dirty blonde, cool grey, jet black (with blue/cool undertones). Even black can have a cool undertone just hold it up to the sunlight. If it looks dark and glossy with blue or grey undertones you are Summer. If it glows red, copper, orange, or with warm undertones I suggest checking out the Spring palette too! If you have naturally red or red tinted hair you may fall into this category as well.
Please note dying your hair can change which palette you belong to. For example, my hair is naturally ash blonde putting me in the category of Summer, but I dye it a light golden blonde which also puts me into the Spring category as well!
Skin color: When deciding if you are Summer the easiest way to tell is 1. Are the veins in your arms/legs blue? This category is for you! 2. Is your skin pink tinted, this is the right place! If your skin is more golden, olive, or yellow this might not be the Season for you, but check the eye and hair color section just in case! Skin color can be ivory, fair, porcelain, cool/fair beige, beige, rosy beige, neutral beige, darker ashy beige, marshmallow, pretty pecan brown, espresso brown, cacao black, or you may have freckles. If you’re still not sure put some of the Summer colors next to your skin to see if it complements you.
So are you Summer? I know I am, but I’m also Spring! Check out the other palette tests to see if you have more than one season.
Here are the three most common combinations of Summer with the other seasons:
Summer/Spring– colors are lightest, muted/soft, and cool
Summer/Autumn– colors are pale, muted/soft, and cool
Summer/Winter– colors are brighter and cool
The Summer palette has two main types Soft/Muted and Clear. For example, during the summer time I can use the Soft/Muted color Summer palette which have softer colors. In the winter time, I can use the Clear color palette which has darker colors perfect for a cloudy day! During spring and fall I like to mix and match both variations.
Here are some common color palettes. Choose what colors you like best to create a unique style just for you!
Soft/Muted Summer (aka Light Summer) Deep mauve, herbal green, baby yellow, navy blue, light grey, cool blacks, rosy reds and pinks, dusty violet, chocolate brown, and many more! These colors tend to be natural on fair skin and more soft on darker skin. Take a look at the color swatches below and choose your favorites to create your own palette.
Clear Summer (aka True/Bright Summer)- high saturated cool colors, vivid greens, fuchsia and strong pinks, sharp grey, ocean blues, dusty violet, electric purple, and many more! These colors look bright and strong on light skin. With dark skin the colors will pop against the skin, while others such as deep fuchsias and blues will enhance the skins rich color. Take a look at the color swatches below and choose your favorites to create your own palette.
Now that you’ve looked over the Summer season palette I recommend you check out the other seasons too! You may have more choices. Once finished with discovering what palette(s) work best for you, making a small swatch booklet with the colors of your choice would make a most excellent guide for shopping.
