Making Your Personal Color Palette

If you’re new to my blog and this article, welcome to the step by step process in finding and making your own unique season color palette. These are not only useful for helping you find the right color of clothes, but can be used for make-up, accessories, or just to learn what colors look best for you. By choosing and organizing your colors, you’ll never buy the wrong color again saving time and money while shopping! Plus, it’s just so much fun.

Before proceeding I recommend you check out the 3 step quiz to find your colors along with the Seasons. Are you Spring, Summer, Winter, or Fall? Check them out and let’s make our color palettes.

Now that you know which Season(s) you are, it’s time to assemble your unique palette. Follow the steps below for easy assembly!

Step 1* Assign a purpose for the palette

Assemble certain colors for specific types of clothing or looks. For example, if you’re wanting to buy sweaters pick some colors and assemble the palette before you shop. Keep in mind to match the colors to your neutral bottoms. One palette has many uses. Some ideas include organizing a single look or entire wardrobe, starting a new look, narrowing down choices when shopping by sticking to the chart, using it as a reference to match things you already own, the possibilities are endless.

Step 2* Choose your favorite colors

It’s important to choose colors that you like. See my Pintrest if you need ideas to start!

Many of the palettes will suggest colors that look good on you, and maybe they do, but it doesn’t mean you have to wear or use that color. For example, my palette has bright purple, but I’m just not attracted to it (at least not yet!). Choose what you like and be picky or you’ll never wear it with confidence.

Making a chart similar to the one above will help you focus on a few key colors that you like.

Step 3* Assemble a group of multipurpose colors

Try to think of your wardrobe as a single unit that works well together. Assemble colors that can work for a multiple of outfits not just a single outfit. Adding in some neutrals is always best (shades of whites, greys, browns, and blacks). This is especially true for jackets, bottoms, shoes, and accessories. One pair of pants can match many different colored tops if it’s a neutral.

Step 4* Use the palette to reboot your look

Use the color palette to organize your closet and make-up. Go through all your make-up and throw away the things that don’t compliment you. This is the time to get a fresh start and a new look. Make a color palette for your new makeup look. You can carry out this same concept with your wardrobe too!

Step 5* Learning by trying

Just have fun. Try mixing and matching your colors to see what you can create. Try on colors you didn’t think were possible. Not a fan of a certain color? How about adding small hints of it in your wardrobe. Think of everything you wear as a color that belongs to your palette. For example, my color palette says I look good in bright green. I don’t like the color, but how about peridotite earrings? Actually, I love those and they look good!

I wish you the best of luck in your color palette adventures. Personalizing my own colors has been fun and I wish I would have done so sooner. All ideas are welcome so feel free to post in the comments below of your experience and ideas on assembling a color palette.
