For years I’ve wanted strong and long hair, but modern beauty advisors always mentioned thin hair never looks good long. And they were wrong! My hair feels fuller, luschous, and healthy compared to my usual frizzed short layering for that voluminous look. Here are some fantastic tips to growing your hair quickly while keeping it healthy.
Tip #1 Check your nutrients

Eating the right food will ensure your locks stay healthy as they grow out. Not sure if your hair is “healthy”. Here’s a quick test to check. Use a hair that has freshly fallen from your scalp. Give it a slow pull between your fingers. The more stretch it has the healthier it is. If it snaps apart quickly then its either lacking in vitamins as it grows or can be overprocessed and thinned from excessive heat.
From this point on try adding more healthy foods to your diet. Proteins such as meats, nuts and beans will give it strength. Dark green vegetables and fruits will give it vitamins, minerals, and the nutrients it needs. There’s always the argument about certain foods being “super foods” or the best for your health. While that may be true, keeping it simple and sticking with the whole foods will be less confusing when changing your diet in the beginning. If you want to hone in one those super foods feel free to do the research behind each source! And most importantly drinking plenty of water gets rid of toxins and will help ensure those nutrients get to your hair.
After changing up or adding to your diet I highly suggest pre-natal vitamins (vitamins used during pregnancy) these will ensure any vitamins you are missing will be covered by the pill. When I use them, I notice my hair grows faster and stronger. Just be careful because most vitamin suppliments are not checked by the FDA so do your research first!
Following these three dietary changes you will also notice your hair grows fuller and it can prevent balding and hair thinning.
Tip #2 Hair maintenance

Hair care and maintence is a key step in making your hair grow quickly. Instead of getting your hair cut every 3-6 months it’s best to go for a trim. I usually trim my hair every 5-6 months only taking ¼ inch to ½ inch but no more. By then your hair has grown about ¾ to 1 inch so cutting this much will just keep it at the same length and you’ll make no progress. Every year after the dry season I trim my hair 1 inch and only 1 time a year for a fresh clean up.
When starting out on your hair adventure it’s best to keep your hair one length with minimal layers. This will make trimming your hair easier and you can keep the damage under control.
Tip #3 Sleeping habits

Sleeping on your hair can cause a lot of damage and tangles especially on curly and thin hair like my own. Changing your hairstyle everynight will keep it from getting too thin on one side. I prefer using a little oil on the ends with a side braid, switching sides each night. You can sleep on a silk or satin pillow to ensure your hair doesn’t snag or rub or use a silk/satin head wrap to protect your hair.
Tip #4 No heat styles

I hate the old slick back ponytail trick to tame my hair and avoid heating it, but thank goodness there is youtube! You can find so many great heatless styles and heatless curling tricks to assemble your updo looks. I rarely use any curling irons or flat irons now that I’ve researched such cute style tricks online. Give them a try and repeat them whenever you want. Less is better when it comes to heat especially the blow drier. Using the cold setting may take longer, but it’s great for curly hair. If you must use it, use cold.
Tip #5 Oil treatments and daily massage

My last tip is to help your hair maintain its moisture and stimulate new hairgrowth. Using a hair oil treatment 1 or 2 times a week can keep it strong and lasting longer. You can use your favorite oil such as coconut, olive, argon, or almond. Warm it in the microwave until its warm not hot concentrating on tips and roots when applied. Massage into the scalp using a scalp massage. Don’t massage too long or hard or it will cause unnecessary hair fall. Wrinse out the hair oil treatment during your shower or sleep with it overnight and wrinse out the next morning. A hair massage can be done everynight for just a minute or two to keep your scalp stimulated and increase the bloodflow to the hair follicles.
Below are some great head massage techniques. This site’s images also are used to lift the scalp and reduce wrinkles. It’s a double blessing!
By adding these 5 tips to your daily life; healthy eating, hair maintence, good sleeping habits, non heat styles, and oils treatments with daily massage, your hair will grow faster and stronger than before. It’s important to remember growing your hair will take time, patience, and a lot of TLC but it can be done!
