5 Tips for growing eyebrows

Plucking my eyebrows since the age of 12 I’ve come to regret my actions being left with sparse thin brows and not a hair in sight. Finally after years of trial and error to bring them back, I’ve compiled techniques that actually work. Using natural methods and a little bit of time, you can grow back your eyebrows to their natural fullness.

Tip 1 No touching!

In order to grow out eyebrows it’s key not to disturb the hair follicles and allow them to naturally repair themselves which in turn stimulates new hair growth. All of the hair may not grow back because of the years of damage, but you’ll be surprised at how much will actually come back. So first things first, no plucking, waxing, threading of any kind. Let the brows grow. It may look strange at first but you can easily shape them using makeup which leads me to my next tip.

Tip 2 Powders not liner

Instead of using eyebrow pencils to fill out the brows which can suffocate your pores and prevent hair growth, shape your eyebrows with eyeshadows and a fine angle brush. Not only is this look soft on the face but will allow for new growth and won’t hinder the growing hair. Also, you’ll find that eyeshadows have a versatile range of colors compared to brow liners making it easy to find the true match of our eyebrow color. It’s a win win.

Tip 3 Oil them up

Olive oil and Vitamin E oil are your new best friends. These oils stimulate hair growth by opening up the follicle and supplying it with moisture and a healthy environment for new hair growth also deterring dry and inflamed skin which suppresses hair growth. In combination with a slight eyebrow massage this will really get the hair growing.

How to use*

Mix a little bit of olive oil and vitamin E oil and warm it up (lukewarm not hot!). Using an eyebrow brush or finger apply to the eyebrow and gently brush in a few times. Be sure not to brush harshly or over massage. This will rip out the fragile new hairs. Apply this treatment twice a day once in the morning and once at night. Be sure to apply the oil not just on the eyebrow but the skin around it as well for optimal growth.

Tip 4 Shaping without hair removal

My best tip for shaping eyebrows to where you never have to pluck, thread, or wax again is to use a small face shaver. I can easily shape my eyebrows with scissors and a shaver so the growing hair is not disturbed and I can change the thickness of my brows having them grow back if the desired shape is not to my liking. By using a shaver you are not damaging the follicles around the skin nor are you tugging harshly like wax strips do which can cause tissue damage and wrinkles.

Tip 5 Time, thought, and planning

Eyebrows are a fashion statement that give our face character, shape, and personality. While your eyebrows grow and you’re waiting impatiently just itching to reshape them this is the best time to reflect and research. Think about the new goal of your eyebrow shape. Do you want them to be straight, arched, bushy, natural, dramatic, stylish. Look at pictures online and make a moodboard with different styles (that are physically possible) for your new look. I’m not going to lie, it takes a lot of time and no touching for them to grow. Mine were so damaged it took 3 years to finally grow them to their fullest. Considering genetics and ethnicity it’s also essential to understand that what you desire may not be completely possible, but with some tricks of makeup and time you can acquire a close resemblance to what you want. Most importantly remember that the brows you choose should be an expression of who you are making you feel confident in your choice.
