~Chapter 3~ The Office Goth – Men’s edition
In the darkness, goths rule the nightworld so it’s time to shine some light on the newest trends and dust the webs off our inner goths. In this series of chapters, I will be exploring the emergence of the latest trends in fashion’s underworld.
I’ve always wanted to dress in a gothic wardrobe fulltime but as I grow older the demands of the workplace require a much more modest approach to fashion and everyday life just doesn’t allow it as often.
So here’s my approach to the latest gothic trends that you can wear at work, in public, and even abroad. Dress how you want to dress. Gothic trends are emerging more elegant and mysterious than before and it’s time to add some new styles into the mix.
Devilishly Handsome Businessmen

Since most offices require our fashion tastes to be tamed down, here are some ideas that can be worn professionally but still lets us choose what we want to wear in a modern and stylish manner.
Choose your main focal piece. Whether you choose a blazer, pants, accessories, or vest, let one piece of your outfit really shine while keeping the others simple and more solid in color. This will allow people to notice your new style, but not be overwhelmed with your gothic wardrobe especially when just starting a new job! The longer you work at your job the more likely you can start to add more pieces as you go.
The Office Over Piece (blazers, suit jackets, vests)
If you want more expressive clothes the overcoat is the first thing people see when having a conversation. Really find a unique pattern or edgy cut to bring out your style.
Making your overcoat the showpiece, try to keep your other clothing simple or mainly one color. Wearing all black? Change the textures of black. For example, black suit pants with a textured jacket and patent leather shoes. They’re all black but by changing the texture it gives your look variety. Just be careful you don’t stray too far into the “costume” look for over pieces or it can look out of place like finding Count Dracula sipping coffee in a Starbucks. The key is to match your surroundings, but still express your personal flare in a modern way.
The Office Shirt
Modernize your plain office button ups with an interesting pattern or print. Pairing it off with a solid blazer, jacket, or vest the pattern will still shine through and is a more modest approach to expressing the gothic style while maintaining a professional and sharp appeal.
If you’ve chosen a powerful over coat keep the office shirt SIMPLE! Too much is overwhelming and you’ll be buried behind all your layers. You want to show off your main piece not drowned it with a battle of fabrics.

The Key Accessories (ties, shoes, belts, piercings, hats, sunglasses, & more!)
If you find your workplace super strict there are other ways to “sneak” in your style by dressing up your accessories. Ties, shoes, belts, even hats can be the show piece of your wardrobe in the office.
Dressing for work doesn’t have to be boring anymore. Cast aside the usual suit and tie and give your style a boost in the right direction. Even adding just a hint of your personality to the world of professionalism can bring comfort and happiness to the confinements of your cubicle.
