Please be warned there will be truthful and very strong graphic images below of what is happening in our world today. Stay strong and raise awareness by sharing this article.
Foie gras a common French dish of duck or geese liver eaten in the finest of restaurants and still sold in the supermarkets of some countries not once have I heard of it or cared where it came from until today. After writing the article about “live plucking” it opened a doorway to yet another problem caused by the gluttony of consumerism, but this one has gone too far for me to sit back and not write about it.
Force Feeding or also known as gavage – To provide a plump and delicious duck liver beyond the normal size of its natural body geese and ducks are fed 3 or 4 times a day over 2-4 pounds of carb heavy corn based diets. It’s not the access to the food that disturbs me but the hoses used to deliver it to their stomachs through a pumping like mechanism or funnel. Over 20% of the animals don’t survive and the ones that do suffer through the torture and its consequences. Their organs sometimes rupture too full to contain the food, their throats get ulcers and develop holes to the outside and not to mention all the other horrible side effects of the process that I can’t even stomach to mention.

Foie gras
Major countries who deserve great recognition for banning and outlawing such practices are India, Britain, Israel, and possibly others too. These countries are taking the step to heal the damage we’ve caused to nature’s beautiful animals. Out of all the things we can eat is it really necessary to keep this “luxury” food in the market at the expense of torturing animals to get it? Those opposed can only complain about the damage it will do to their businesses and restaurants but none can offer a logical argument that can contradict fairly what they are supporting and doing. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the dish if the animals are raised naturally. Businesses look for a way to boost their profits and the heavier the duck liver the more money they make. It doesn’t affect the quality of the product whether small or big but is corrupted all for the sake of money. It’s a food we can frankly survive without eating if the cost is our own morality.

Force feeding farms
I’m ashamed to say America has yet to adopt the rules of outlawing it. There is the possibility in 2022 that New York will finally step up and stop this cruelty, but the fight against it has been met with resistance by profit hungry business owners. California is also following in this direction as both are major producers and actively participate in force feeding farms for profit.
Raising awareness of this situation is a must, tell one and a chain of great change will begin, but as an individual we can do even more!
Don’t buy duck liver or foie gras in restaurants or on the markets. Don’t support the farms and their businesses. One restaurant owner said in his argument to keep foie gras on the market “The customers will determine the market.” and you know he is right! We have control to either consume this product and support it out of selfish gain or we can take a stand and refuse to continue supporting the farms. Employees will lose their jobs once the farms shut down, but there will always be other jobs on the market. The ducks only get one chance to live and living a life of torture over something so ridiculous as a single main dish it’s time to change our tastes in food. I’m not saying we can only chew on grass in fear of where our food comes from, but this particular dish must be stopped until the animals are raised in a humane way. Only then can we bring back this cultural dish without a guilty conscious and soiled hands filled with dirty money. Stop consuming, spread awareness and the company will fall. No customers no products.
If you’re passionate about this subject, share, spread, and comment below some of your solutions to this problem. Speaking is only half the battle the rest is acting upon our beliefs. I’m also looking for those willing to translate in other languages to spread the word. Translations don’t have to be perfect, but spreading the word is important on a global scale! Feel free to post them below.
