~ Chapter 14 ~ Gothic beach fashion (Women’s Edition)
In the darkness, goths rule the nightworld so it’s time to shine some light on the newest trends and dust the webs off our inner goths. In this series of chapters, I will be exploring the emergence of the latest trends in fashion’s underworld.
I’ve always wanted to dress in a gothic wardrobe fulltime but as I grow older the demands of the workplace require a much more modest approach to fashion and everyday life just doesn’t allow it as often.
So here’s my approach to the latest gothic trends that you can wear at work, in public, and even abroad. Dress how you want to dress. Gothic trends are emerging more elegant and mysterious than before and it’s time to add some new styles into the mix.
Beauty on the Beach

It’s almost summer time so what’s trending in the underworld during these scorching hot days? Here are my top 4 picks for this summer’s beach gothic fashion trends to pull together a simple look for your time at the beach.
The One Piece
No longer are these designed with old women or children in mind, but have been modernized to compliment a variety of fashion tastes and figures. Keeping it classy and your skin well protected from the summer heat I love the look of one piece swim suits. Not only are they functional for swimming you are guaranteed not to lose any coverage as you move. One pieces are a very secure swimsuit for a range of activities on the beach and still figure flattering. Just be careful for those sexy fishnet styles and ties as they can leave strange tan lines on your body. Since there are so many varieties you can shop for a certain “attitude” you want to portray. Frills are feminine and delicate. Corset lace up and fish nets are sexy. Cut outs are both sporty and sexy. If you have a long torso like me and most one pieces don’t fit in length, look for ones with adjustable shoulder straps to give you the extra space.

Goddess Robes
Cover up and protect your skin to some degree with sheer dress covers. I love these because they’re not only good for the beach but can be used all year round with your other fashion making them well worth your money. They come in a variety of lengths and when you walk they give a certain appeal of elegance to your stride because of its airy fabric. You can go for just a simple mesh look or add a floral pattern for texture there are many varieties online and instore. The sheer material can be bought in different thicknesses so its easy to find ones that will give you a lot of protection from the sun to fit your needs. Make sure the mesh holes are very fine and almost invisible to the eye! The larger holes will leave a strange speckled suntan on your skin.
Picnic on the Beach
I always need a bag for a day at the beach. You have towels, sunscreens, snacks, but there is nothing worse than getting sand in your bag and then dragging it home for more of a mess. This is why I love wicker style bags. Usually people see them as “grandma” bags but not any more! There are many cute varieties to choose from and you can even go for a classic picnic basket look. The sand slips right through the wide cracks of the bag and in with just a couple of shakes there is no more sand inside. Look for a bag with no lining or a removable light cotton lining that is easy to clean and won’t show stains. You can reuse the picnic baskets for occasions such as outdoor parties, hiking, or day trips. It’s a romantic classic look that has been modernized by new materials and designers’ creative ideas. Can’t find one in black? Time for a DIY project to make it your own special bag.

Witchy Hats
I’ve always used a sunhat to protect my face not only on the beach but for many outdoor events. They give the modern witchy appeal to complete your outfits. Paired with sunglasses it still has that classic sexy vibe to it and will protect your skin. Not only reserved for the beach you can wear it in town on any beach front style place and outdoor cafe or when outside in the garden. Here are some things to look for when buying a sunhat to make sure you don’t buy the outdated kind. Stay away from too large of a brim. The brim of the hat shouldn’t reach past your shoulders and the safest range is about to the middle of your shoulders. The top shouldn’t be squished to the top of your head as it will make you hot and suffocate your scalp. It should sit maybe 1/2 inch to 2 inches from your head but nothing too tall as it will be swept away in the wind. The brim should have a slight stiffness to it so that you can shape it and make sure you don’t have the “drooping” style that looks like your hat is wet and depressed. One side should always be raised to allow you to see others. There is a wide range of materials sunhats are made from but my far favorite is the finely woven straw wicker style. They last a long time and can be reshaped easily. Just be sure not to get them in the rain and treat it with a rain repellent spray. They aren’t meant to be put in the water and will lose their shape because the material shrinks and then loosens.
